IXth International Early Music Festival in Lima

2 to May 12 develops the ninth edition of the International Early Music Festival this year with the participation of 10 delegations from different countries, with national groups that demonstrate that the Renaissance and Baroque music is effective and is performed by musicians of diverse latitudes.

The Festival is organized by the Early Music Ensemble of the Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru and the Peruvian Board of Music, a group that, under the direction of Lydia Hung, is dedicated since 1995 to spread the European Baroque repertoire and Latin America.

The opening concert on Monday, May 2, was in charge of Chatham Baroque American group, composed of Andrew Fouts, baroque violin, Patricia Halverson, viola da gamba, Scott Pauley, theorbo and Baroque guitar, and this time will be joined by prominent percussionist Daniel Mallon. This group is an international tour celebrating its tenth anniversary. The concert will begin at 7:30 pm in the auditorium of National Museum of Archaeology, Anthropology and History of Peru (Plaza Bolívar s / n, Pueblo Libre).


In that same scene on Tuesday, 3 will be presented at 7:30 pm Early Music Ensemble at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru under the direction Lydia Hung, who perform songs by Handel, Byrd and Orejón and Aparicio, among others. Since its inception, this group seeks to recover and publicize ancient repertoire, including the other continents, so a considerable number of works that are performed are recreated after centuries and others heard for the first time in our capital.

On Wednesday, 4 to 7:30 pm will be presented in the auditorium of ICPNA Miraflores (Av. Angamos West 120, Miraflores), the Ensemble Artifex (Peru) under the direction of Luis Chumpitazi. This young group dedicated to spreading the Renaissance and Baroque repertoire, has 5 years of training, 4 of them giving know the vast musical heritage from the archives of the cathedrals of Latin America, emphasizing the former Viceroyalty of Peru.


The PUCP Early Music Ensemble will perform on Thursday 5, 12:30 pm in the Auditorium of the University Law (University Avenue cdra.18 s / n, San Miguel) and in the evening, at 7: 30 pm in the Auditorium will be presented Arion ICPNA Consort Miraflores (Peru), composed by Sergio Portilla (recorders, flute), Cesar Sanchez (violin), Maria Eugenia Codina (viola da gamba) and Yana Piachonkina (harpsichord).

On Friday, 6 to 7:30 pm will be presented at the MNAAHP (Plaza Bolívar s / n, Pueblo Lb) Vocal Appunto Assembly, led by Javier Súnico. The main interest of this group lies in bringing classical music to new generations in an educational and engaging work which has been dedicated since its inception in 1997.

Consists of the sisters Alejandra and Pilar Lopera Quintanilla, the American violinist John Pruett, Javier Ramos (baroque violin), the Grimoldi Argentine cellist and flautist Danilo Nicolas Ponce.


Monday 9 in the auditorium ICPNA Miraflores (Av. On Wednesday 11 the festival returns to MNAAHP involving, at 7:30 pm, the duo Alphabet (Colombia) a musical dedicated to the dissemination of the repertoire of the baroque guitar. It takes its name from the writing system of the chords in letters and numbers, which was used for the instrument during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. It is composed by Andrés Silva (tenor) and Julian Navarro (guitar). The next day, Thursday 12, Alphabetically duo perform a new concert at 12:30 pm in the Auditorium of law PUCP (Av. Universitaria s / n cdra.18, San Miguel)

The evening concert will be the same night, Thursday 12, at 7: 30 pm with the presentation of Duo Ingomar Rainer / Rainer-Jocelyne Gibert (Austria) in the MNAAHP (Plaza Bolivar s / n, Pueblo Libre). The repertoire consists offer works by Bach, Biber, Scarlatti, Couperin, Haydn and Mozart.
